Paul Anthony Waickman

Paul Alphonsus Waickman passed away peacefully Thursday, December 21 2017 at the VNS Hospice Care Center in Copley.


Paul was a lifetime Akron native, born August 2, 1929 to Leo A. and Catherine Waickman. Paul was a proud graduate of St. Sebastian’s Grade School, Campion Jesuit High School, and John Carroll University. Paul was an Army veteran during World War II. He returned to Akron after serving to start his teaching career at St. Mary’s High School. He took great pride in educating and guiding his students. In retirement, Paul was a selfless individual, helping all those in need. He was a doer of good deeds and a friend to all. 


Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Catherine, and his siblings Father Thomas Waickman, Sr. Anna Mary Waickman, and  Dr Francis J Waickman.  He was also predeceased by his nephews F. Joseph Waickman MD, and William C. Waickman. Surviving Paul is hi sister in law Marie M Waickman, and nephews and nieces Leo A. Waickman MD (Lynn), Ann M. Waickman (John Moore), Mark M. Waickman (Patricia), Marianne C. Waickman, Michael J. Waickman MD (Mary Beth), and Katheryn M Briem (Awen).  Many more will miss hiss compassion and constant smile. 


Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-6 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd. Copley.  Mass will held on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Internment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The St. Sebastian Parish Foundation, 475 Mull Ave, Akron, Ohio 44320, or IHM Retirement Fund, 610 West Elm Ave,  Monroe Michigan, 48162.
