Bill Balch of Akron, OH, 90, passed away Monday October 30, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.   Bill was married to his wife Arline for 59 years.  He was born in Akron, Ohio and grew up in Ashland, Ohio.  He was a medic in the Navy in World War II and then went to college on the GI bill at the University of Akron where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.  He graduated quickly in 3.5 years.  Bill retired at the age of 70 after 38 years of service with the United States Concrete Pipe Company, later known as Essroc.  He was a member of St Sebastian’s Church.  His hobbies included golf, he was an avid Cavs and Indians fan, he kept a perfect lawn and walked the neighborhood often where he was known as the “Mayor of Country Club Rd”.  Bill was a dapper dresser wearing pants and a sport coat every day into his 90’s and when he left home he always wore a hat.  Bill was a member of Portage Country Club enjoying lunch every day at the “round table” and enjoyed Christmas dinner every year with his family, his wife Arline, his four daughters and their families.  Beloved husband of Arline for 59 years, Bill leaves four daughters, Erin Vollmer, Suzanne Balch, Lisa Kleines (Bob), and Belinda Darr (John) and six grandchildren Bill, Sara, Susie, Samantha, Nicholas and Isaac. Our special thanks to Beth Sutor and Adam Lamb who cared for Dad every day with the utmost compassion, respect and humor.  You two understood him and became his best buddies.

Bill’s family and friends will celebrate his life at St Sebastian Catholic Church on Saturday November 4th with calling hours from 10:00-11:00 am and a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am.  Burial will take place immediately after mass at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Donations can be made to St Sebastian’s church and the National Parkinson’s Foundation  www.parkinsons.org
